How to drop FOAF from profile?

topic posted Wed, June 22, 2005 - 12:23 AM by  offlinenightbird
So how do I opt out of it?

If that's not possible, how do I erase the list of friends from it?

If none of the above are possible, can I upload a NULL file?

    I also see that Tribe.net is embedding a vCard, with city and state from my subscription, and not what is stated in my profile. Can that be stopped, also?

      from the account page choose 'edit your bio' and check the 'Don't show my location' checkbox to prevent others from seeing you location. There's no way to hide your friends (other than not having them) either via the human interface or via the FOAF interface.

      The question is why hide your friends?

        or your messages? or your telephone calls? or your credit card purchases?

          FOAF doesn't make public anything additional, all your friends are available. So what do you see as the problem with it? Tribe.net is a 'Social Networking' site, the premise being based on making visible the network of relationships between people. If you don't want to be part of the tribe.net society then don't.

            I can see that some people may wish to keep their contact list private for whatever reason.

            i can also see that some people may only wan to keep certain contacts private.

            i imagine this will all be possible one day.

            <FOAF doesn't make public anything additional>

            The vCard in FOAF is more explicit in terms of location. It is not using the information in the profile. It uses the City and State from the subscription information given to Tribe.net.

            But hiding location does also turn off the vCard in the FOAF XML.
