  I can give you an unofficial answer.
  
  Tribe is leading the way to support FOAF as an interchange format. Tests are in the works to prove this possible, at which point an industry consortium will get setup - that will guarentee that as long as a system does A, B, C - end-users will be bale to move their entire social nets between that system and anotehr FOAFnet system.
  
  So hang in there - it's happening!

    How is that possible? Let's say user A has friends B and C on network X. Now A wants to move to network Y. B already exist in network Y, but C doesn't. Are we going to setup C on network Y?
    
    Just wondering.

  We're kind of pre-sneaking thefact of an organization being formed - called FOAFnet. It's a consortium of comemrcial FOAF vendors - set up to guarentee compatible FOAF interchange between systems.
